’98 Sportster 1200……very nice condition, one owner with only 8500 miles………and it’s going to get cut up……but improved.
The plan is for a Street Tracker……..19″ wheels, better brakes, XR750 tail, inverted fork front-end, re-worked rear triangle + shocks, chain drive conversion, alloy tank……it’s a big list.
A ton of help, parts, and advice are coming from Richard Pollock of Mule Motorcycles. Wheels, bearing carriers, rotors, triple tree, and forks are on the way. The bike will also run Mules handlebars. If you’re going to tackle a tracker build, Mule is the place to start, check out the website, www.mulemotorcycles.net, some great examples and pages of inspiration.
Down to the basics
Motor comes out next and the frame will be sent to the local sand blaster. Once back from blasting the frame will be de-tabbed and cleaned up. By then I hope to have an oil tank and can start thinking about placement. When the wheels arrive from Mule the real fun will start…….rear triangle reconfigure, rear shock mounts, and chain drive conversion. Stay tuned……….
One empty frame, I’ll make a proper stand for the engine this weekend & get the frame ready for sandblasting
Mooneyes 3 quart oil tank from the one and only Lowbrow Customs
XR glass tail section from Jack Warren at First Klass Glass…….super nice
And the pad for the tail section…….also a First Klass Glass piece
Finally got around to welding up an engine stand
Makes things much easier
Rocker boxes and side covers off and away to get some color
oooh, I’m looking forward to this one! Sounds like a great project 🙂
